Modern Square Dance is a dance for four couples, but you don't need to bring a group to learn!  Couples, singles, and people of all ages can take square dance classes!

A typical square dance class lasts 12-18 weeks, covering 50-70 calls, depending on the class.  Each lesson is progressive, so what you learn this week will be based on what you learned last week!  And your Square Dance Caller is not only responsible for teaching you how to Square Dance, but also to make your lessons fun and exciting so you're itching to come back next week!

Upcoming Classes

Square Dance Classes in NWI are currently being held at Hebron Elementary School & Hillside Church in Crown Point.  Lesson classes are currently being considered at local Southlake YMCA locations, as well as other cities in NWI.

Classes typically start in September and February.  However, a class that begins in July is currently being considered.

September 22nd & 29th will be FREE INTRO sessions, so come try out square dancing and bring your friends!  

This class will last approximately 16 weeks; meeting each Monday.  Lessons are $5 per person per night starting October 6th. 

Walk-ins are encouraged, but if you plan to attend, please contact Avery to reserve your spot (see below).  You can also reach out if you have any questions!

Wrong Way Squares Lessons

Most Square Dance Classes in NWI are sponsored by the Wrong Way Squares; a local square dance club based in Hebron, IN. The Wrong Ways have a long history in Northwest Indiana, celebrating their 52nd anniversary as a club last year!  Lessons are primarily taught by veteran Square Dance Caller, Chuck Witt, who has been calling for over 40 years.  Chuck has also arranged to have Avery teach some of these lessons this year to assist in his calling education. 

Future Lessons

The Wrong Ways typically hold 16-week beginner-level square dance classes in Hebron, IN that start in September & February.  For more information on those classes, check out the Wrong Ways Squares website!  These lessons will also be listed on this page within the next few months.

Avery is in the process of starting new classes across NWI.  To stay in the loop on these opportunities, please join our mailing list below!  Upon joining, you will be given the option to provide feedback on potential new lesson locations.  Avery is willing to discuss details, logistics, & terms with anyone that is interested in becoming part of the square dance community!
